The World Peace Prize is a historical award founded in 1989 in Washington D.C., and has since been recognizing world leaders who contribute to the cultivation of peace for humanity regardless of personal cost and sacrifices, as well as individuals who offer exceptional vision and leadership for the development of a better world. For more than three decades, the World Peace Prize has been a prestigious prize well recognized internationally. Some of the past award recipients include President Ronald Reagan of the United States; Hon. Mahatma Gandhi of India; H.E. WASHINGTON, May 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — In 1989, the late U.S. Congressman Hon. Robert Leggett, Suzi Leggett, former senior advisor to the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the U.S. Congress, and H.E. Viscount Han Min Su founded the World Peace Prize Awarding Council, a non-profit organization to promote world peace.

Today, World Peace Prize Awarding Council is one of the most prestigious international peace recognition organizations in the world. At its 30th anniversary, the World Peace Prize Awarding Council celebrates the historical significance of World Peace Prize that has been awarded to world leaders and heads of states who had made outstanding contributions to humanity at the time they received the awards. The World Peace Prize Awarding Council held a grand award ceremony on June 14, 2011 in the Gold Room of the Rayburn Congressional Office Building at the U.S. Capitol to celebrate the recipients of the 2010 World Peace Prize: H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, pre-eminent leader of Buddhism in the world; Hon. Benjamin A. Gilman, former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Mission

The World Peace Prize adheres to the core spirit of advancing peace, justice and inter-religious collaborations.

The award is presented to exceptional individuals who have contributed to the cultivation of peace for humanity regardless of personal cost and sacrifices, and to those who offer exceptional vision and leadership for the development of a better world.

The World Peace Prize is not awarded on a periodic basis but only when a deserving occasion arises, when individuals or groups contribute to the causes of world peace by preventing regional conflicts or world war; settling the disputes of political, diplomatic and economic matters; developing new inventions to minimize threats and confusions within mankind.

World Peace Prize Awarded at the U.S. Capitol Today

WASHINGTON, Jun 14, 2011  — The World Peace Prize Ceremony is being held in the Gold Room of the Capitol of the United States today. The award presentation honors Top Honor Prize recipients H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and Hon. Benjamin A. Gilman; and Roving Ambassador for Peace will be awarded to the Civil Air Patrol. World Peace Prize Recipients Announced

            WASHINGTON Feb. 3, 2011 — The World Peace Prize is a prestigious award presented by the World Peace Corps Mission, an international Evangelical missionary organization that operates according to the core spirit of advancing peace, justice and inter-religious collaborations. Past recipients include President Ronald Reagan of the United States; President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia; President Kuniwo Nakamura of Palau; Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of the Republic of Ethiopia; Hon. Peter Lewis, speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly; Hon. Young Jin Kim, ranking member of the Korean National Assembly; and Colonel Samuel J.T. Boone, Chaplain of the United States Army.

            Awards will be presented April 2011 in the Capitol of the United States (date to be announced).

 2010 Award Recipients:

H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III recognized for his selfless devotion to a wide scope of healing and rescue-relief activities directed at people from communities throughout the world. His wisdom and benevolence embrace all races, ethnicities, cultures and religions: bringing kindness, peace and equality to all. Wherever he goes, His Holiness brings unity amongst people through his own humility and compassion. His Holiness is also a distinguished artist. Through his teachings and practices, art and poetry, H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has pointed out a bright path of non-violence, charity and love for humanity. His Holiness has been the recipient of numerous awards including the United States Presidential Gold Award for his outstanding contributions to arts, medicine, ethics, Buddhism and spiritual leadership, and to American society.

 Hon. Benjamin A. Gilman recognized for being a life-long champion of human rights: fighting world hunger, narcotic abuse and trafficking. He has made many successful efforts to bring about “prisoner exchanges” which resulted in freedom of American citizens in East GermanyMozambiqueCuba and several other nations. Congressman Gilman served 15 terms in the U.S. Congress. While in Congress, he has served as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and as Congressional delegate to the United Nations with title of Ambassador, and later the Ukrainian Famine Commission and Vice Chairman of the committee on Prisoners of War. Mr. Gilman has been the recipient of numerous honors including the President’s Certificate of Outstanding Achievement “for continued, demonstrated vision, initiative, and leadership in the effort to achieve a world without hunger.”
